Employees from Abrasives and CavMac Divisions Organise Table Quiz for Charity

quiz2On Friday 25th September, volunteers from Abrasives and CavMac Divisions of Abcon organised a Table Quiz to raise essential funds for four children’s charities: Make a Wish (Brazil), Marysia Kosinska (Poland), Jack & Jill (Ireland) and The Orphanage Children Centre of Social Services (Latvia). The event was held in the Errigal Country House Hotel.

The organizers (Nikki McGoohan, Kathryn Freeman, Mihail Medvedkovs, Bernadetta Bajorek, and D J McMahon and MC Lyn Sharkey) were delighted with the great turnout and staff from both the abrasives and rubber hose divisions joined together in teams and had a very entertaining evening. Apart from the friendly competition of the quiz, we had some other fun events in between rounds.

Extra prizes given out for being good sports. Brendan O’Reilly is known for sending out our hose quotations very quickly and he proved that he is as fast on his feet when he won wet shave voucher for being the first man up to the committee wearing lipstick. Our financial controller Mary Keegan was the first girl up with a man’s sock, which had been quickly whipped off by our Abrasives Applications Engineer Garry O’Connell. Mary won a voucher for a manicure for her trouble.

quiz1Teams were also given the chance to win bonus points by taking part in a doughnut eating competition. A representative from each team had to eat a full doughnut without licking their lips. The winner won an extra five points for their team. David Malinowski from our abrasive division won by actually putting the entire doughnut into his mouth in one go! Everyone was suitably impressed with the fact that he didn’t choke on it and there was no doughnut sugar evident so he won the five points for his table.

Winners on the night were: Dawid Malinowski, Zofia Majek, Joanna Pilat, Dariusz Petlic and Paul Gilsenan and they were presented with their prize by Director Paul Gilsenan while Barry Smith MD presented a commiseration prize to Zygimentas Gritenas, Alek Medvedkovs, Elena Panasova and Katarzyna Grabowiec who were on the team that finished with the least amount of points.

The organizers were very grateful to the directors for their kind sponsorship of all of the prizes and refreshments on the night.
